What does Naba mean?

A t’Naba ( locals pronounce it with a click sound ) is a rare underground mushroom/truffle that only grows in the Kalahari dessert. Two weeks after there has been some rain fall, local people go digging in the dunes. It takes some practice to spot the small crack on the surface of the sand that is the tell tale sign of a Naba buried below. A rare delicacy that is unique to the Kalahari.
It is eaten sauteed in butter or cooked with cream as a soup. The Indigenous people believe that it has medicinal properties and therefor when taking it from the ground you have to "pay" the earth by placing a small coin in the hole where you removed the Naba.
